Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) is important in primary education because it enables kids to
search for the information they need and to organize what they have found. As
children progress through the school system, they become increasingly responsible
for their own learning. By believing this idea in our country too ICT have been
started to integrate into curriculums. So by this time all schools produce
computer literate, independent learners.
Internet tools like Email, social networks, newsgroups
and video transmission have connected the world like never before. In our
country, most of the student use social networking like Facebook and wechat. Students
can now communicate using those social networking facilities that provide
knowledge-based information. Students can learn online and also talk to experts
online (mostly their teacher). Notes, readings materials, assignments can be
received by students from anywhere. The Internet provides major information in
texts, audios, videos and graphics which can be accessed by the individual.
With
the introduction of ICT in education, classroom learning is one attribute that
makes learning experiential and experimental to students. Students can listen
to the instructor or teacher, receive visual cues through PowerPoint images,
handouts or whiteboard lists and participate actively. This helps in immediate
interaction and students have opportunities to ask questions and participate in
live discussions.
By using technology in the classroom, both teachers
and students can develop skills essential for the 21st century. Students can
gain the skills they will need to be successful in the future. Modern learning
is about collaborating with others, solving complex problems, critical
thinking, developing different forms of communication and leadership skills,
and improving motivation and productivity. What is more, technology can help
develop many practical skills, including creating presentations, learning to
differentiate reliable from unreliable sources on the Internet, maintaining
proper online etiquette, and writing emails. These are very important skills
that can be developed in the classroom through the use of ICT.
