My experience on usage of Camtasia

After using Camtasia to create my tutorial video I came to know that Camtasia Studio is two products in one, the screen recorder & Videomaker and editor. This software has got the feature of creating powerful, interactive & professional videos that can be used for a wide range of projects such as making of YouTube videos and allows developing video tutorials for teaching and learning in the classroom and uploading them as well.

By using this software practically I am confident that I have learned basic skills. These skills are simple yet effective in many ways and can be even applied in the education system, particularly to create a video tutorial on any of the topic from any subject. So that I can make classroom learning enjoyable. Moreover, I learned how to insert videos, pictures and background music to make the video attractive for the audience. This gives us many editing tools like we can record our own voice, split the parts, and work on it whenever we feel it is necessary after keeping our work saved.

As I already said,  I came to know that it plays as a powerful tool to create video tutorials for the students in a creative way. Even when we integrate a simple tool like power point in our teaching and learning in the classroom, we can see curiosity among the students to learn a lesson.  With the use of Camtasia, it will help to enhance the students’ learning and build their curiosity, resulting in motivating students to learn. We must rely on such productive tools to improve our teaching strategy and if it means to enhance students’ creativity.

Camtasia can come in handy for training professionals and teachers too. Teachers can, in
fact, add life to their PowerPoint presentation by integrating it with Camtasia. They can create stunning learning tools for their students which are interactive and make learning fun and easy. With so many benefits it’s no wonder that Camtasia is the first choice of many professionals. I urge all the educators to get along with such tools to make teaching and learning effective, efficient and fun learning.

Reflection on the usage of Google classroom as communicative tools

Till this date I was not aware of what is mean by the word Google classroom. I did not know its purposes and usage though heard. I thought it is a blog or social forum where the learner and educators get teaching and learning materials that is instructional material related to specific field. But it was not the way I thought. However, I came to understand the significance of Google classroom only after attending this valuable module.

Goggle classroom is additional tools which will make teaching more productive, collaborative, and meaningful.  Most probably it is a tool where teacher can be applying in teaching through online service. I learnt that Goggle worked across the country to create classroom especially for the teachers, it helps to manage coursework, able to create classes, distributes assignments, and sending students’ feedback. Moreover, it is useful for students as they can retrieve the materials posted by the teachers, share their doubts on the discussion forum and they can be able to upload their assignments in paperless way without wasting much time.

Sometimes this can be disadvantageous owing to the required internet access. We are aware that most of the rural school are inaccessible to internet and do not have enough desktops. In this case, it is unreliable to use Google classroom.Still then it depends on how smartly you can plan to use Google classroom.

I personally feel that it is as similar to VLE discussion but only difference that I saw is in VLE the students should be more active and work more. Conversely in Google classroom teacher should be active throughout the course and let student to do few works but that’s also to discuss, do assign works and doing projects.

While creating a Google Classroom, I have learned that we should organize our
thoughts; should give the code to students if we want our students to join the classroom and the most of all is we teacher should post the materials that is very academic. Teacher should take extra effort to give time for the student and help all the students to reach at individual need.

Reflection on nine elements of Digital Citizenship

After attending the session, I am much more aware of two main ideas such as Digital citizenship and Elements of Digital Citizenship. First, Digital citizenship is the norms and rules we follow to act appropriately when using technology.  There are nine elements of Digital Citizenship namely Digital Access, Digital Commerce, Digital Communication, and Digital Literacy. Likewise, Digital Etiquette, Digital Law, Digital rights and responsibilities, Digital health and wellness, and Digital security are also included.
The above nine elements of digital citizenship provide a comprehensive way of educating students on how to be responsible, empathetic, and safe when navigating social media and the internet. . It is high time to creates an awareness to the students that not only the secure that we have to concern about but also the languages and proper mannerism of using ICT in public.

Firstly Digital Etiquette refers to an electronic standard of conduct or procedures.  Technology users often see this area as one of the most pressing problems when dealing with Digital Citizenship. We recognize inappropriate behavior when we see it, but before people use technology they do not learn the digital etiquette. Often rules and regulations are created or the technology is simply banned to stop inappropriate use.  Moreover, we must teach everyone to become responsible digital citizens in this new society.
Digital Commerce means where technology users need to understand that a large share of the market economy is being done electronically. Genuine and legal exchanges are occurring, but the buyer or seller needs to be aware of the issues associated with it. The mainstream availability of Internet purchases of toys, clothing, cars, food, etc. have become commonplace for many users. The user needs to learn about how to be an effective consumer in a new digital economy.

Another element is Digital Communication. It is one of the significant changes within the digital revolution is a person’s ability to communicate with other people. In the 19th century, forms of communication were limited. But in the 21st century, communication options have exploded to offer a wide variety of choices. Example, e-mail, phones, instant messaging.

I even knew the difference between Digital Literacy and Etiquette. Digital Literacy is the capability to use technology and knowing when and how to use it. Further, Digital Literacy is the way of teaching, using, and learning online technology. This element is very important because we have to know what we are doing online and if it's bad or good. In addition, learners must be taught how to learn in a digital society. In other words, learners must be taught to learn anything, anytime, anywhere.

Further, Digital Law is also considered as an element of Digital Citizenship. It says that citizens of our city, state and country, we are governed by certain laws.  As digital citizens, there are also laws that apply to our behavior and interaction. There should be no stealing, no plagiarism, and no abuse of others. Users need to understand that stealing or causing damage to other people’s work, identity, or property online is a crime. There are certain rules of society that users need to be aware of an ethical society. These laws apply to anyone who works or plays online.

Digital rights and responsibilities and Digital health and wellness are also included in 9 elements of Digital Citizenship. Digital rights and responsibilities are those freedoms extended to everyone in a digital world and there is a basic set of rights extended to every digital citizen. Digital citizens have the right to privacy, free speech, etc. Basic digital rights must be addressed, discussed, and understood in the digital world.

Digital health and wellness is physical and psychological well-being in a digital technology world. Eye safety, repetitive stress syndrome, and sound ergonomic practice are issues that needed to be addressed in a new technology world. Users need to be taught that there are inherent dangers of technology.  Additionally, technology users are taught how to protect them through education are training.
Last element Digital Citizenship is Digital security which means electronic precautions to guarantee safety. In any society, there are individuals who steal, deface, to disrupting other people. The same must be true for the digital. We need to have virus protection, backups of data, and surge control of our equipment. As responsible citizens, we must protect our information from outside forces that might cause disruption or harm.

After learning about nine elements of digital citizenship I could able to know all do and don’ts of using ICT in public. Moreover, I could learn many informative issues from the elements and amongst all the most appealing points that I like was digital right and responsibility.

Reflection on the usage of the excel spreadsheets

Teaching and learning became much easier and effective with the access to Information Technology and it became an inseparable part of it. I was left doubted over the decades during that primary to middle secondary days how can a teacher produce results of forty students. I didn’t have the slightest idea of the Microsoft Excel sheet. However, teachers are masters to students and students assume the teacher knows everything from bit to the whole. I thought the teacher can do everything well.

My idea of ICT was just to have videos played and in addition few said we can also play games on it, nothing more than that. But my thinking on ICT remained in the box, was limited and lagged far more behind than what actually it does. Taking through the lined of computers in the lab in the first year on the FIT module, I was amazed by the information of its features and functions. Among many, I learned and loved the computer application called spreadsheet (excel).

The spreadsheet is an electronic document in which data is arranged in the rows and columns of a grid and can be manipulated and used in calculations. I was left in dilemma frequently during my school days, how much time is consumed to prepare academic result for the students by a single class teacher? But then in reality it was not, a thousand of copies can be produced within a few minutes time using this application. Mistakes in a spreadsheet can be corrected by entering a new number or text into that cell of your spreadsheet. Within one spreadsheet numerous can be done with the right formula entered.

In the process of learning, I found that it is easier to create the activities, such as, creating graphs or tables and many more effectively and efficiently by using excel spreadsheets.
Moreover, it saves time and effort of us. This idea of using spreadsheet excel helped me in teaching practice a lot. The tasks related to marking are all done with the use of this. So, as of many I profoundly learned about the spreadsheet and attached pictures below are my work of it during my college days.

Importance of ICT in classroom teaching and learning

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is important in primary education because it enables kids to search for the information they need and to organize what they have found. As children progress through the school system, they become increasingly responsible for their own learning. By believing this idea in our country too ICT have been started to integrate into curriculums. So by this time all schools produce computer literate, independent learners.

Internet tools like Email, social networks, newsgroups and video transmission have connected the world like never before. In our country, most of the student use social networking like Facebook and wechat. Students can now communicate using those social networking facilities that provide knowledge-based information. Students can learn online and also talk to experts online (mostly their teacher). Notes, readings materials, assignments can be received by students from anywhere. The Internet provides major information in texts, audios, videos and graphics which can be accessed by the individual.

With the introduction of ICT in education, classroom learning is one attribute that makes learning experiential and experimental to students. Students can listen to the instructor or teacher, receive visual cues through PowerPoint images, handouts or whiteboard lists and participate actively. This helps in immediate interaction and students have opportunities to ask questions and participate in live discussions.

By using technology in the classroom, both teachers and students can develop skills essential for the 21st century. Students can gain the skills they will need to be successful in the future. Modern learning is about collaborating with others, solving complex problems, critical thinking, developing different forms of communication and leadership skills, and improving motivation and productivity. What is more, technology can help develop many practical skills, including creating presentations, learning to differentiate reliable from unreliable sources on the Internet, maintaining proper online etiquette, and writing emails. These are very important skills that can be developed in the classroom through the use of ICT.

Reflection on the designing of power point

When I was in higher secondary school I was excited to learn when my chemistry teacher teaches through the use of power point presentation. I feel like I learn faster when he uses this kind of modern facilities. However, at that time I have no idea about this power point presentation. I use to think about how this work, how it was made, and I use to ask myself many questions. But at that stage,  I have no courage to ask about it to my teacher. I got to pass out from higher secondary school without knowing what these things really are? How these things really work, and how it helps in learning of the children.

Conversely, I have learned many things being here at Paro College of education.  Starting from preparing power point presentation, preparing students result in an excel sheet, usage of Microsoft Word and other important skill that is mandatory to have, being a future teacher. From multi knowledge that I gained till this date, I found power point presentation could bring diverse effect on teaching and learning in the classroom. As I have prepared on games and sport using both the language thinking that I could reach individual need.

While preparing this power point I tried to use all principle that I learned from the module offered by the college. This could include seven by six rules; i.e. seven words in a line and six lines on one slide. Font size should be managed in such a way that it was visible from every corner. This can be full field by managing proper colour contrast like using the light on dark and wise versa. The word should be clear and simple which could be readable and understandable by every individual.

Moreover, I learned that to make complex concept simpler we have to add pictures and animations for teaching complex relationships. We must add visuals aid to support our main idea and concept. In this power point design, I have used images, visual aids, and pictures to make my concept clear. To meet all individual need we have to add videos with sound in our presentation. So to make our teaching and learning more interesting in a class we must design a power point presentation considering all elements.

Reflection on the usage of Microsoft office publisher

Information and communication technology has a very strong effect on education and it provides enormous tools for enhancing teaching and learning. ICT enable new ways of teaching and learning when used appropriately under right conditions such as suitable resources, training, and support as we do in our college classroom setting.
Having opportunities to take a module called functional information and technology in the first semester and ICT in teaching and learning in eight semesters. I have learnt lots of essential skill that could bring better teaching and learning in the near future. From many I have got familiar with the use of Microsoft word, preparing power point presentation, usage of excel spreads sheet, animating simple video and many other things.

From many, I must say that I have got a clear concept on the usage of Microsoft office publisher to design brochure. I have learned that if I can use this Microsoft, it can permit the user to place importance on layout, pictures, and effect. Since this publisher has got template design, I found it comfortable to use it though I did not have the experience to design using it. I learned much designs as there were many ready-made templates available on Microsoft office publisher.

I have also found that this Microsoft publisher got features like customizable, task feature, insertion, autoflow, and faster flow as it can help in saving our time. As this Microsoft got features to call customizable I can just access the office online and choose from a wide range of templates available in the Microsoft office publisher. This can be done if I am not satisfied or impressed with my brochure template.

I found this Microsoft office publisher easy to use as it can allow us or user to insert our own choice of pictures, images and text by using the clip art. Having these advantages I learned that this can be done as it has got feature call insertion. While designing this brochure I came to know that there was an easy flow from one column to another. As similar to Microsoft word this publisher to allows us to do copying and pasting which make our work easier and faster. One reason I love to use this Microsoft office publisher was that it can help us to design brochure within a short period unlike in Microsoft word which helps in saving our time.

Reflection on the use of ICT in the classroom

Globally, educational systems are adopting new technologies to integrate ICT in the teaching and learning process, to prepare students with the knowledge and skills they need in their subject matter. In our country too, the teaching profession is evolving from teacher-centered to student-centered learning environments. “ICT integration is understood as the usage of technology seamlessly for educational processes like transacting curricular content and students working on technology to do authentic tasks” (Kainth and Kaur).

Nowadays ICT facilitates not only the delivery of lessons but also the learning process itself. This includes computer-based technologies, digital imaging, the internet, file servers, data storage devices, network infrastructure, desktops, laptops and broadcasting technologies namely radio and television, and telephone which are used as instructional tools at schools. Integrating ICT in classroom help to nurture modes of learning, or learning styles, such as visual, auditory and kinesthetic to maximize the learning potential of individual needs.

Integrating ICT works best as a supporting tool making complex processes or creative experience either possible or easier to accomplish. Moreover, technology can offer new ways to provide meaningful, real-life context for learning, it also allows students to collaborate with peers and experts across the country and around the World.

Integrating ICT in teaching and learning are found better than, the traditional method of teaching and learning as it is limitless of time and space.  Moreover, suitably integrated computer use can contribute to successful results in the classroom as it can support teaching and learning, support children’s socialization and enable children with disabilities to integrate into the classroom. So the benefits of ICT for students are greatly dependent on the technological skills of the teachers and their attitudes towards technology.
